Grosvenor House July 2016 Newsletter

Hello all and welcome to our July newsletter, it’s full of all that we’ll be up to in the coming month.

June was a just as busy for us; we had a new entertainer visit us; Phoebe. Her hour of singing was enjoyed us all as was the high tea that followed, it was lovely to see a few more of you could join us to indulge in some yummy cakes.

As the weather has brightened (hopefully a sign of things to come!) we’ve been spending more time outside in the garden; dining el fresco, enjoying afternoon tea and tending to our flowers and vegetable patch. It’s wonderful to be able to get out into the fresh air and enjoy our beautiful gardens.

A few of us also took a trip to the new shopping centre in Longbridge to investigate the M&S as well as the other pshops there. It was a lovely day out and we even stayed for lunch. Only one crisis- the lift on the minibus broke down! But it was soon sorted by our fab driver Nigel-phew!

A few thankyous now; firstly, thanks need to go to everyone who came along to lend a hand and helped the trip go smoothly and secondly thanks need to go to Debbie who kindly donated the money we used to buy our new bigger greenhouse for the garden this year. It has already been put to good use, it protected all our seedlings and plugs before we planted out and made our hanging baskets and will continue to be used for many years. It looks great and helps keep my wellies dry too!

Looking forward to July now, there’s plenty going on. Me, myself and Di are making a comeback, Russell and Alana are visiting and of course our sponsored walk and summer fete are happening this month.

Tuesday 12th, 11.00. Move and motivate.

We always have so much fun when Alana visits with her box of tricks, which includes; balls, foam batons, pom poms, scarves and not forgetting cowboy hats! All to get us exercise, it will be great, hope you can join us.

    Sunday 17th, 2.00 onwards.

    Sponsored walk 2016.

Each year we hold a sponsored walk to raise money alongside the fete for our resident’s fund, all money raised funds our days out and activity resources.

We will be walking the Arrow Valley Lakeside Trail this afternoon- please think of our poor, tired feet!

Thank you to everyone who has already sponsored us, the form can be found in the foyer beside the signing in book, if you haven’t already we would love it if you could sponsor us.

I know for certain there is an ice cream cabin with lots of amazing flavours to choose from, so Kamal will be buying everyone who takes part at least seven ice creams! There’s an incentive if ever I heard one!

(disclaimer- the above statement about the purchase of ice creams may be untrue!)

Thursday 21st, 11.00. Communion service.

Meryl and John will be taking this month’s Communion; they join us from Alvechurch Baptist Church in the village. It will be held in the small lounge, in the morning as this seemed to work well. Everyone is more than welcome to attend the service. If you are unable to attend but would like a visit from the church I can arrange a visit for you, just make me aware.

Pet therapy dates:

  • Tuesday 19th
  •  Thursday 28th

    Saturday 23rd, 2.00 onwards.

    Grosvenor House Summer Fete.

It’s here! Fete day. If you have anything to donate to our stalls we would be very appreciative; tombola prizes, plants, books or any other donations would be great- there’s still time. Please see the office or Zoe if you have any queries.

The fete will be being opened by our local MP at 2 o’ clock and then our afternoon of fun will begin. Pimm’s, cakes and jams, samosas, tombola, plants, books, face painting as well as as a performance from Vintage Class are all on the bill.

We look forward to seeing you all for a wonderful afternoon. If someone could preorder some sunshine I’d be very grateful!

   Chiropody visits.

Hilary is a local chiropodist; she kindly visits us from her practise in Alvechurch each month. The dates of her visits can be found on the notice board opposite the kitchen. July’s visit is Wednesday 27th, please let us know if you need an appointment and we can add you to her list.

Thursday 28th, 1.00. Me, myself and Di.

These lovely ladies have only visited us once before and it was a great morning full of laughing and singing. They bring along some instruments so we can get involved too and sing lots of our favourites. It’s going to be so much fun; I hope you can join us.

      Hairdressing update.

Our lovely hairdressers, Caren and Sallie come and spend every Tuesday with us. They make you all look beautiful and they are just fabulous! They will soon have a fresh new look salon to work in and I thought it would be an idea to include a price list for you;

  • Perm and finish- £25.00

  • Cut- £8.00
