Hello and welcome along to our Grosvenor House newsletter. This issue is a little different; I’m going to be a smarty pants! This newsletter will cover both October and November, as Christmas is looming-eek! I’ll need a little time in November to make sure we’re ready for the festive season.
We had a busy September; animal visits, entertainers, music therapy and our Macmillan coffee morning to name just a little of what we were up to. The following months are just as fun packed, with plenty for us to enjoy.
We hope you can come and join us for some of what we’ve got in store. This includes some pampering, a choir, bonfire night and Halloween celebrations, some new entertainers and a couple of trips out too.
- Michael- 26th
- Sheila- 29th
- Tony- 17th
We all wish you a very happy birthday, enjoy your special day!
We need to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to the coffee morning we held in aid of Macmillan last month and helped us to raise money for this wonderful cause. We raised an amazing £116.30p- thank you, this will help people and families coping with the effects of cancer.
Thanks also need to go to Steve and Sharon for their fabulous baking- their cakes were so yummy! There wouldn’t have been much of a coffee morning without cake.
Thursday October 13th, 2.30. Alison singers.
These lovely ladies have visited us a few times before, they are an all-women’s choir with wonderful voices that always manage to make us laugh with their witty poems too.
Wednesday October 19th, 11.00. Alan’s choir.
Alan’s last visit was hilarious, we managed to mess up a few of his songs! Let’s hope we do a little better this time. Alan brings along song sheets and a keyboard and we become a choir for the morning- it’s always great fun, we hope you can join us for a morning of singing and lots of laughing.
Thursday October 20th, 11.00.
Wednesday November 16th,11.00.
John and Meryl will be taking October’s Communion which means Fiona will take November’s Communion. Everyone is welcome to attend, the service will be held in the smaller lounge, we thank the Baptist church for their time, support and kind words each month.
Wednesday October 26th, 11.00. David McFegan.
David is quite a regular now here at Grosvenor, he will be joining us for an hour’s singalong with songs from the swing era as well as some big band classics. John you’re going to love it!
Thursday October 27th, from 11.00. Trip to Meadow Farm.
We’re off for a pub lunch today, fabulous! If you would like to come along just let me know, also if you are able to accompany your relative on this trip please let me or another member of staff know so I have a rough idea of numbers before I book the table- thank you.
Chiropody visit. Wednesday October 19th and November 16th.
Hilary will be spending the morning with us, please let a member of the care team know if your feet need attention and we can add you to Hilary’s list.
Monday October 31st, 11.00. Rusty Smith.
I think Russell may be our resident entertainer- we love him, even if he doesn’t love us! Well more specifically, even if he doesn’t like that we throw pants at him! - Shayne! Anyway he will be joining us for an hour this morning, I promise there won’t be any knicker throwing.
Monday October 31st, 5.00 onwards. Halloween celebrations!
We’ll be celebrating Halloween all of the week, as it’s the theme for our activities, but on Monday 31st we will hold a spooky Halloween party at 5.00. Everyone is more than welcome to join us- costume optional!
Wednesday November 2nd, 11.00. Liz Rider.
This will be Liz’s second time joining us, she comes along with her guitar and we have a good old fashioned sing along to some well-known folk songs.
Friday November 4th, 5.00 onwards. Bonfire night celebrations.
It’s become a bit of a Grosvenor House tradition now, each year we all enjoy a fish and chip supper followed by a small fireworks display. A little nearer to the time I will make a menu available to everyone so you can choose which chip shop supper you would like. It’s always a lovely evening, we do hope you’ll be able to join us for the fun.
Tuesday November 10th, 10.00. Sam’s pampering.
I thought it would be nice for us to have a complete pamper morning today. As it will be a Tuesday our lovely hairdressers will be in the salon providing you all with washes and sets, also Sam will be with us. Sam is a beauty therapist and will pamper you all with amongst other things manicures and hand massages. It should be a truly relaxing morning.
Wednesday November 9th, 11.00. Carole Reese-Jones.
We absolutely love Carole’s visits, they’re always great fun and she has so many funny stories to share with us about her travels. Come along for an hour of singing, laughing and a bit more singing with our favourite Welsh lady.
Thursday 17th November, from 11.00. Trip to Longbridge town centre.
Our last trip here went down so well; we’re going back (We must have been on our best behaviour!) If you would like to come along you know the drill, just let me know, the same goes for anyone wishing to accompany their relative. The more the merrier!
Monday November 21st, 11.00. Progressive mobility.
This is something new for us to try, our instructor for the morning will be Steve, he will be joining us for a forty-minute activity session. It will be a mixture of reminiscence, puzzles and quizzes for us to try- sounds like good fun. It’s Steve’s first visit to us so be nice!
Lost and found.
Our laundry has a section for unnamed clothes, socks etc. If you think you may be missing something on your next visit to the home if you would like to speak to either Sue or Anton, our laundry staff they will be happy to help you find and label them. Each person has a selection of different sized name labels so if you bring any new clothing into the home just take it to the laundry for naming before it goes into a wardrobe, thank you.
We would love it if you haven’t already to recommend us to carehome.co.uk. The forms are available in the foyer and help people to make the difficult decision of choosing a care home for their loved ones. The more recommendations we get the higher we appear on their site and the more lovely people come and see us - thank you.
