For many January can be a disappointing month, after all the excitement of Christmas we can feel a bit low in its aftermath. Not so at Tutnall, we have been keeping busy and finding plenty of fun things to do.
We had our first proper Holy Communion service since covid, performed by Roger and Michael from Tardebigge Church including the wafers and wine, which was very much welcomed by those who joined.
We celebrated all things Scottish for Burns Night, staff and residents wore tartan or blue and white (the colours of the Scottish flag) for the day. We had Scottish food and drink including Irn Bru, Whiskey and some yummy shortbread baked by Maria. We watched a documentary on the countryside and wildlife of Scotland and there were handouts about the life of Robert Burns and examples of his poetry. Residents took part in a Scottish quiz and also a Scottish themed wordsearch. We played some games including Wellie Wanging and Toss the Haggis, much to everyone’s delight.
Residents helped to prepare for the RSPB’s Garden Birdwatch by creating bird feeders out of apples, peanut butter and seed. Then on the Friday we spent an hour observing the garden and counting how many birds we saw, we counted 7 different species- plus a couple of squirrels!
February begins with the Chinese New Year, 2022 is the year of the tiger, residents will be enjoying some spring rolls and Chinese themed activites. The Winter Olympics will also be on this month, so we’ll be watching the sports and cheering on the British team.
Love will be in the air for Valentine’s Day and residents will be decorating some heart shaped biscuits to celebrate the day. We have the wonderful Helen coming to perform on her keyboard and hopefully give us a few love songs to get us feeling warm and fuzzy!
